Really good text editor, but I had it crash on me after I wrote 75 lines and I added a semicolon to fix one of the lines. Thank God I had copied the code before to test. Makes sure you save often.

I thought this thing would allow me to edit an XML file. You can, but you need to edit it like a “text” file. There is no formatting that would give you what you need for XML, like expanding and contracting sections!!!

Just so you understand, this is simply a text application that makes programming easier- to test your program, you’ll need to run it in something else. But what it does, it does perfectly. Haven’t had any issues.

This editor is how the not-so-great TextEdit that comes with OS X should have been! It does syntax highlighting for a number of languages, it has few options but the options it has make perfect sense, and it is extensible via scripting. Its not trying to be a watered-down word processor nor a full-blown IDE, which is where many AppStore editors fall down. You want to edit some text - no problem, this editor lets you do it easily, quickly and with no fuss. I give four stars because there is room for improvement, but there are no problems with the functionality of this application.

This is a replacement for TextEdit. Exactly what I was looking for. Love the line numbering, highlighting, and more professional options for handling documents.

I am not by any means a website design extraordinare, but i am having to use it for a class at college. what is there to say about a text editor… they simply write text. very basic program. what is nice about this one vs. others i have used is that there is some colour coding that it recognizes and that makes it a little easier to understand visually. comments are green, numbers and measurement units are blue, and properties are pink and #id tags are yellow… and there is more i’m sure. i think that is the only reason it stands out and why i would preffure it to other note pad things.

I downloaded this app for one reason, to pretty print a JSON file. It worked great. I use other editors to do code editing; but I will keep this one in my tool box for JSON. The prices is great too - like free. Keep up the good work.

I wish it has a python language library. I know there are a million other tools I could get (textwrangler, jedit, etc) but I like what I am seeing here and will continue to use it despite the python compatibility. ;) Thanks for making this tool

It works great with its powerful features. It offers text editing with color code and many font options. There is also a code editor included. The find, replace and jump function works nice.

TextEditor is slightly better than TextEdit that come with OSX. Needs similar functionality to UltraEdit if its to be really useful. - Line numbers - selecting a column for mass editing - various coding languages libraries - better source code error checking - cross platform support

I wanted an app that would save plain text, and this one will. But I found that it stalls when loading big files. Also it froze completely once. Luckily it was with a small file and I could recreate it easily. version 1.2 reviewed 21 Mar 16

It doesn’t recognize Java or Python (true, the description above doesn’t mention them) The syntax coloring is inconsistent. For Shell scripts, it only colors the first 25 lines. The app hangs up if you try to open a non-ASCII file (like a Word document, by mistake)
